Statement: Erie Insurance Information Security Incident (July 7)

ERIE, Pa. (July 7, 2025) — Erie Insurance today released an update regarding the company’s information security incident response and recovery:

We have resumed full business operations. Key services and systems have been safely and securely restored and our local agents, claims teams and customer care teams have returned to regular ways of serving customers.

After a thorough forensics investigation conducted by independent cybersecurity specialists, there is no evidence that any sensitive personal information, financial records or legally protected data was breached by the threat actor during this incident.

For more than 100 years, Erie Insurance has taken pride in being there for customers when they need us most. We appreciate the teams who have been working tirelessly on recovery efforts, and the agents and employees who have been upholding our Above All in Service promise. June 27: We are making consistent progress toward resuming normal operations and have safely and securely reconnected key business systems and applications, including online account access for customers.

Currently, there is no evidence of ransomware and no indication of ongoing threat actor activity. We are working diligently to identify what, if any, data may have been affected during this incident. Our investigation is ongoing, and we will continue to provide updates as we have more information.

While the proactive and protective outages we initiated on June 7 disrupted and helped contain the threat, we also recognize those actions caused other operational challenges. Our recovery process—supported by some of the nation’s leading cybersecurity experts and guided by our values and founding principles—is intentional, phased and prioritized to ensure we continue to do the right thing and put service above all else.

As we continue investigating this incident and restoring full system functionality, our local agents, claims, and customer care teams continue to support our customers. June 26: ERIE’s One-time online bill pay portal is available. In addition to the claims and customer service support we have provided throughout this situation, ERIE customers can now make one-time account payments online at ErieInsurance.com. June 23: We continue to make strong and steady progress toward resuming normal business operations. After a thorough review of all systems—conducted by both our team and external partners—we have safely and securely reconnected several business systems and applications.

The proactive network and system outage we initiated on June 7 disrupted and helped contain the threat. At this time, there is no evidence of ransomware and no indication of ongoing threat actor activity. We take these matters very seriously and are working diligently to identify what, if any, data may have been affected. Our investigation is ongoing, and we will continue to provide updates as we have more information.

Until we learn more, we encourage customers to follow best practices around personal security and notify their financial institutions of any unusual activity. June 17: Our teams — partnering with leading cybersecurity experts — continue working around the clock to restore access for customers, agents and employees. Unfortunately, incidents like this are becoming increasingly sophisticated and can impact even the most well-protected organizations. Upon detecting unauthorized activity, we took immediate action to contain the issue and have since implemented additional security measures to further strengthen our systems.

At this time, we have control of our systems. We have seen no evidence of ransomware and there is no indication of ongoing threat actor activity. We take these matters very seriously and are committed to providing updates as appropriate. We’re confident in our actions, but this work is complex and takes time. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

June 11: On Saturday, June 7, Erie Insurance’s Information Security team identified unusual network activity. We took immediate action to respond to the situation to safeguard our systems and data. Since Saturday, we have continued to take protective action for the security of our systems.

We are working with law enforcement and are conducting a comprehensive forensic analysis with the assistance of leading cybersecurity experts to gain a full understanding of this event.

The investigation into this event is ongoing. We will continue to provide updates as we have more information.

June 9: A network outage impacting ERIE systems continues. All available resources are working to restore access as soon as possible.

June 8: We are currently experiencing a network outage that is affecting all systems. All available resources are working to assess the impact and resolve the issue as soon as possible. During this outage, customers will be unable to access their online accounts or reach Customer Care or First Notice of Loss.
