Knoxville Agent Sponsors Habitat Home

July 10, 2008 - Ashley Wyatt serves his Policyholders every day as an Agent. Wyatt also extends his commitment to service to the community. This year, he is breaking new ground by sponsoring his first Habitat for Humanity home in Knoxville, Tenn.

“This is a perfect opportunity to give back to the community,” Wyatt said. “It’s more than just a hand out. We’re enabling someone to earn a home through their hard work.”

Construction of the house begins July 13, but for the past few months, Wyatt has been busy raising funds and recruiting volunteers. His agency staff and 11 Employees from ERIE's Knoxville Branch Office will volunteer, along with members of the community.

Knoxville Agent Ashley Wyatt (white shirt), Wyatt Insurance Services, and his staff sponsored a Habitat for Humanity house this year. Construction begins on July 13.

The Knoxville Branch has also donated $500 to help build the home. Pat McMichael, branch manager, was very receptive when Wyatt first mentioned his plan to sponsor a house. “Pat’s been one of the most enthusiastic supporters,” Wyatt said. “He didn’t hesitate to volunteer to help, and he got the branch involved.”

“Our Employees are excited to donate their time,” said McMichael. “This is a great cause and it’s wonderful that our Employees can participate alongside volunteers from Ashley’s agency and the community.”

Wyatt has not yet met the family that will move into the house; however, he looks forward to meeting them once construction of the house begins. “True joy in life comes from serving others,” Wyatt said. “For me, it’s faith-oriented. It’s important to make the needs of others a priority.”

The decision to get involved with Habitat for Humanity is not unique to ERIE in Tennessee. In May, the ERIE-sponsored Lindenberger family broke ground on their Habitat for Humanity home in Erie, Pa. The foundation is now complete, and framing is scheduled to begin July 12. New volunteers are always welcome.

Wyatt was appointed as an ERIE Agent on March 1, 1995. Since then, he has earned the Founder’s Award six times as the principal Agent at Wyatt Insurance Services in Knoxville.

His agency’s success is reflected in his service attitude. “As an agency, we try to put the needs of our clients above our personal needs, but it’s even more rewarding to do something charitable,” Wyatt said. “Helping a Policyholder still comes with a financial reward, but serving the community earns us a much more fulfilling spiritual reward.”
