Walking the Walks: Employees Demonstrate Commitment to Community Service

Watch a video (transcript) about IT Employee Fran Schlabach, who organizes ERIE's March of Dimes campaign.

Dec. 10, 2008 - When Employees crossed the finish line of Erie Insurance’s third signature charity walk — the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes — this fall, they raised more than $32,000.

With the completion of this walk, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in July and the March of Dimes’ March for Babies in April, ERIE Employees donated more than $77,000 to these causes.

In addition to walking, Erie-based Employees rallied to support the walks by planning and participating in various fundraising activities. March of Dimes had a calendar sale, Relay for Life sold chances for theme baskets, and JDRF held a food day and bake sale, book sale and golf tournament. For JDRF, these activities helped raise more than $10,000.

On Dec. 4, Erie Insurance earned JDRF's top level of achievement, the Diamond Award. This award is given to teams that raise between $25,000 and $49,999 dollars. ERIE also earned the Top Corporate Team Award among all the corporate entities that supported this year’s walk around Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pa.
